3 Sunflower Embossing Folder Card Ideas | Stampin’ Up! Techniques

The Stampin’ Up! Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder makes a beautiful impression on its own, but a little extra color or texture can give each card a completely different look. In this class, I make three sunflower cards using the same folder and three easy techniques.

Three handmade sunflower cards featuring sanding, blending brushes, and an inked embossing folder technique.

This video is a rebroadcast of a class I recorded in July 2025. The Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder is still available. Some of the other supplies shown in the original video may have changed, but you can make these designs your own with the cardstock, sentiments, and embellishments in your craft room.

Card 1: Distressed sunflower card

For the first card, I emboss Lost Lagoon Two-Tone Cardstock, then lightly sand the raised sunflower design. Sanding reveals the lighter layer of the cardstock and makes those details stand out. I also rough up the edges with my paper snips for a soft, distressed finish. The monochromatic colors let the texture do the work.

Card 2: Sunflowers colored with blending brushes

The second card begins with an embossed white panel. I use blending brushes to add Daffodil Delight to the flowers, Garden Green to the leaves, and Pecan Pie to the centers. You don’t need to color every little section perfectly. The blending gives the sunflowers a soft, cheerful look.

Card 3: Ink the embossing folder

For the third card, I apply Pecan Pie ink directly to the embossing folder before embossing white cardstock. That one step brings out the background and the sunflower design. I then add color with Stampin’ Blends and finish the card on an Early Espresso base. This is the messiest technique of the three—and such a fun reveal when you open the folder! Here are three cards using this technique.
